Whistler Mountain Bike Park Opens Friday May 20

Mountain Bike fanatics the world over have been eagerly anticipating the opening of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park this Friday, May 20.

Whistler Blackcomb Public Relations have released information on the latest for Whistler Mountain Bike Park. “Eagerly anticipating the opening” is a bit of an understatement in my circle of friends. For those of us who live in Whistler to ride bikes it’s about six months overdue!

Despite challenges caused by a never ending winter, the Whistler Mountain Bike Park will open with eight signature trails: A-Line, Crank It Up, B-Line, Heart of Darkness, Ho Chi Min, Crack Addict, Devils Club, Hornet and the Joyride Jump Park.

The absence of beginner trails such as Easy Does It makes it challenging for a beginner to check out the bike park early in the season, but it has been mentioned that “beginner terrain will open as conditions allow”. How far away that is remains to be seen, but with the perfect weather we are expecting for the opening weekend I wouldn’t imagine it’s far away.

“Coming off the second snowiest season on record we knew it was going to be a challenging spring,” says Brian Finestone, Whistler Mountain Bike Park Manager. “The trails we have ready are wet but in good shape and more trails will be added to the “open” list every day.”

The Whistler Bike Park is open every day from 10am to 5pm until June 17. Extended Play (10am to 8pm) starts on June 18. Lift access to the park is available via the Fitzsimmons Express with the Whistler Village Gondola opening May 28.

The Air Dome also opens on May 20 and is open Friday to Sunday until June 12; then daily until September 4. The Air Dome is an 8,400 square foot indoor bike training facility with foam pit and wooden ramps.

New for this season is the Whistler Mountain Bike Park Demo Centre. Bike park guests can demo a selection of 41 high performance downhill bike models from eight different brands. As a special for the offer to celebrate the launch of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park Demo Centre, “guests who rent a bike from the Demo Centre May 20 to 22 will receive a free Whistler Mountain Bike Park day ticket.” For those visiting early in the season and plan on renting a bike, this is certainly the way to go!

It’s finally here everyone! Get out there and ride!
